· A one-night stopover

Delft, The Netherlands · 3rd Jan 2007 · Posted by Chris
Well, here we are. We've found a cool place to stay here in Delft so we're going to stay here for one night before heading further into The Netherlands.

A lot of the touristy stuff was already closed so we wandered around aimlessly until we managed to find the shopping district. Oh dear. How can anyone come on a holiday like this and not spend every red cent on clothes and other assorted cool things that you can't find at home? So, ummm, yeah. That's what we did. Oooooooo yeah! And pretty cheap too ... naturally we couldn't let good bargains go by without helping out the local retail outlets ... hehe

On the way back we stopped in one of the local supermarkets to grab some food. Even those places are a massive array of items people like me have never seen before. You don't even need to know how to cook if you shop in these places because everything is pre-packaged for you. How sweet is that?! Little packets of lettuce, ham, cheese, even sandwich-sized packets of butter. For people who have 'had a few' they definitely make it easy to grab some quick eats.

Fast forward to the next day ...

We checked out the old church in Delft, one of the touristy things we missed yesterday. It's pretty cool and we took a couple of photos. The interesting thing is that all sorts of famous people and their families are buried there. We had a pretty philosophical discussion about what we might find if we started prying up the stones in the floor ... very PC of us. Kinda like The Da Vinci Code too.

We had our first encounter with train problems on the way up to Amsterdam - our train broke down before it got to our station which left us wondering what to do next. 5 trains later we managed to get through it unscathed ... phew!

So, next stop ... Amsterdam!

Chau!
