New York, New York. Where can I possibly start?
Insanity is the best way to describe this totally awesome city. Annie had spent some time in New York before but for an inexperienced fulla from Miramar NYC is mind-blowing. The TV shows, for once, actually seem to make the city look like it really is. From the massive brownstones to the world-famous skyline showing the Empire State Building to the ubiquitous "Yellow Cabs" it’s everything I’d seen on TV and then some. We never got to sit on the steps of the court house and pretend to be part of our favourite TV show "Law & Order: SVU" ... we’ll just have to do that next time we visit.
We arrived relatively early on day 1 and decided to pack in as much as we could. We had arranged accommodation in a haunted hotel called The Hotel Chelsea, a hotel famous for having accommodated some truely famous people. Arthur C. Clarke stayed there and wrote the cult classic film "2001: A Space Odyssey" while in residence - cool! It's got an amazing foyer full of weird and wonderful art pieces as well as corridors full of some of the strangest art we've ever seen. It's supposed to be haunted but we never saw any ghosts ... or did we? ;)

Heading out we thankfully didn’t have to wait long in the queue to go up the Empire State Building ... just long enough for me to get this photo.

The view from the top of Empire State is nothing short of amazing. There’s something quite surreal about being 86 floors above more than 8 million people going about their daily lives. Looking most directions gives a pretty good idea of just how densely-packed New York City is. Not surprisingly the most popular side of the observation deck is the one facing towards the tip of Manhattan Island where the World Trade Centre towers stood until September 11, 2001.

NYC - the view is amazing
So, what else are you supposed to do while in The Big Apple? See a Broadway show of course! On the way up to Times Square we got into a conversation with a guy selling tickets to a comedy show that sounded really cool. We told him we would “come back later” – lucky we said that because once in Times Square we found tickets to a live performance of the show “Chicago”. It was AWESOME! The singing was amazing, the dancing was beyond anything I’ve seen before and the audience all seemed to love it as much as we did. I highly recommend going to see a live show if you get the chance!

We've decided to break New York into a couple of different posts - stay tuned for the next episode!
