This is going to be a post with pretty much only 2 purposes - to share a couple photos and a video that I shot with the Whistler Action Cams helmet camera. This thing is seriously cool and it's great getting the reactions of other riders when they see the helmet sitting up there on top of your head. :)
Today's thrashing session was similar to yesterday's but with 2 differences that I can spot. Firstly, I almost hit a bear. It's the same bear from the other day (it's been hanging around the park all week) and no I'm not kidding. How do you know I'm not kidding? It's in the video below, that's how. Ok so kinda hard to see but the video shows a full run from the top of B Line down to Heart of Darkness. I chose these 2 trails to put up here because they're fast and fun ... the slower trails are a bit boring to watch I reckon. If there are any downhillers watching this vid just ignore my crap riding and don't even mention the word 'case' to me ok? :P Secondly, it shows some of my favourite parts of the park so far simply because they're super fast and potentially painful if you mess them up. Details:
4:27 is where the bear shows up. It's really hard to see but he's a dark blob running off the edge of the bermed corner. *I* can see it clearly but I guess I know what I'm looking for. Hope you can see it too.
5:33 is the lowest part of B Line and is basically the transition between there and Heart of Darkness. Video doesn't really show it but the speed is somewhere around 60kph through there.
6:15 is a nice wee chicane through the trees before arriving at Heart of Darkness. Mess up your line there and you'll be eating branches for lunch.
6:41 just past the red sign on the left is a high speed semi-drop that I'm enjoying hehe (I say semi-drop because it's not a true drop as far as downhillers are concerned)
So, here's the video ... I highly recommending the YouTube HQ option if you have the bandwidth for it.
3 days on these trails and I'm slowly getting better at this DH thing but after racing cross-country for many years the transition is slow. :)
Now for some photos. The place I'm staying is called The Alpenglow and it's less than 5 mins walk from the heart of Whistler Village (everything happens there). It's #53 on the Whistler Village Map if you're interested in checking it out. In fact the notes below may make more sense if you do have a look!

The Alpenglow, the place I'm staying during my time in Whistler.

The view from my balcony. Pretty freakin' awesome I reckon!
If you walk out the front door of The Alpenglow you hit Main St, turn left and get to Northland Blvd that takes you right up to Village Square in Whistler Village. It looks like this:

Village Square, Whister Village. This is less than 5 mins walk from my door.
Walking through Village Square takes you along Village Stroll to Mountain Square and then to the gondolas for transport up the mountain.

A view of the Village Gondola station.
The closed doors on the bottom left of the building is the Garbanzo Downhill Rental centre and where Jamie, the owner of Whistler Action Cams, runs his business from. Yeah yeah I know go on about it but it's such a good idea and he's been so helpful that he deserves every customer he gets.
So that's about it for now. I'm going to write another post right now that has another video of a different trail before getting down to Heart of Darkness. I tend to end my runs down on this trail coz it's the style of riding I like.
Bye!
