Wednesday morning saw us leave St Lucia. We left fairly early to see some relatives in Richards Bay. Uncle Gawie (pronounced Harvey) has a brain problem and lives with his wife Kitty in a caravan park. They survive on R400 a month (about $70). It was a dump. They have a caravan with a gazebo attached to it at the front for an “extra room”. It made us think how lucky we are to have a roof over our head…a proper one!

We left Richards bay for Durban which took about an hour and a half. Durban city centre is crazy…it’s a bit old and run down now, but is busy with lots of people, cars, constant noise and honking of car horns, pandemonium.

We made our way to our accommodation, heading towards the beach through the dodgy area of town. It took us a while to find the place. It is not even named the same as one we booked on the internet. It is one street over from the beach, and in the dodgiest area of town. It is old, crappy and very dingy. None of us wanted to believe we would be staying here…Downstairs in our building is a pub and also a nightclub named “Shags”. Dodgy! When we booked it the main criteria was to be close to the city and the Comrades start line. Although I don’t feel unsafe, there are plenty of police and things around, we would be wise to be careful and definitely be on our guard.

Oh and the toilet doesn't work also. Just fantastic!
Actually we were in the supermarket yesterday so I bought toilet paper, as we had been suing one ply crap...but the best we could find was 2 ply. Now I'm used to quilton 3 ply...

I blame Rheanna for booking us into such a crappy place…I think everyone else should too! It’s quite ironic really because at least it’s better than a caravan!

In the evening we went to the Suncoast casino complex. We didn’t gamble at all. We did however go to Milky lane where I had a milo milkshake! Very lekker! Nice and thick with bits of crunchy milo throughout.

Our stay in Durban will consist mostly of experience around Comrades and shopping I’d say…
