Friday morning we went to Little India again to go gold shopping. Previously I have paid anywhere from $16-20 per gram. I was looking to replace my bracelet (isn’t there a word you can use to say for a man’s bracelet that doesn’t sound so girly?) I lost earlier this year.
I almost had a coronary once I discovered the price…$42-50 per gram! Ok this meant my budget I had prepared went out the window. Oh well we won't be back in Singapore for a while, had to make the most of it.
We then travelled via Bugis street back to the hotel. Bugis st is another touristy/shopping area.
In the afternoon we left for our tour of Sentosa Island. We started off at Mt Faber, which has a lookout of the city, and travelled along a cable car (gondola) to Sentosa.
Once there we went to Underwater world. I wasn’t really interested and zoomed through – Rheanna only just managing to hang on. Once you’ve been to South Africa nothing else really compares…
We did get to have photos taken with a snake however. That was quite exciting although a little freaky…
Then we went to the 4-D magix. A movie that is 4-dimensional. ie you wear silly glasses and things appear out of the screen. The 4-D is that your seat shakes, you feel the ‘crabs’ at your feet, but the bit where you get splashed with water was quite cool. Again overrated. Lots of squealing kids/girls…
It ended with the “Songs of the seaâ€. A musical/lighting/water/firework sort of display thing. Great if you’re 5 years old. 25 odd years later not as exciting. $13 million to produce. I could’ve saved them some money!
After 3 days in Singapore I have to say I don’t think Singapore is that great. The new parts are very nice (look like Beverly Hills) and the old parts are very crabby. Everything is so touristy. At every thing you go to you get a photo taken (which you can buy, to do with the attraction you are at/on) eg Singapore flyer, night safari, Mt Faber cable car, Merlion…
You feel like you are on a conveyor belt (or otherwise you are on a bus) going past all the attractions. Everyone is simply taking photo after photo, and you don’t actually have time to soak it in. (Rheanna: As you can see Sanjay is having some South African withdrawl – please be patient – he should come right about one week before our next SA trip)
