Sunday morning we started off by going to the East London museum. It is small scale and mostly quite old, but it still had some interesting and unique exhibits. It had a display about coelacanth’s (pronounced seal-a-kan-th), because they were thought to be extinct as they are older than dinosaurs, and the first one was discovered here in East London in 1939 and is in the museum (dead, obviously)
There is also a dodo egg. The only known dodo egg was donated to the museum.
The rest was a typical museum, some nice exhibits but we got bored of reading stuff after that (other than mother in law who loves museums. At least now she is happy)
Then we went to Gonubie beach and had a walk along the boardwalk.
We went out for lunch with Jono, Sarah and Shan to a nice little place along the Gonubie beachfront. Jono is a real character who constantly keeps us amused with his wonderful story telling. Jono had a peanut butter milkshake which we all got to taste. I don’t like peanut butter but this was actually quite nice.
Jono then took us to Friesland milkbar for doublethick milkshakes…supposedly the best around…they came in interesting plastic bottles. I had milo, Rheanna had chocolate and the in laws had caramel and malt. They were lekker!
Jono also gave me some Border Bulldogs rugby gear. A polar fleece, a polo shirt, a tie. Thanks Jono!! I will definitely be supporting them in the currie cup well the B section anyway) from now on…go Border! I was also impressed to learn that Sarah’s great Uncle was the great Springbok captain Basil Kenyon, whom the East London rugby ground is named after. What are the chances?
For dinner we had nandos…and then we went back to Friesland! This time I had Toffee, and Rheanna had butterscotch.
