Louis Trichardt, South Africa · 30th Jun 2008 · Posted by Sanjay
Sunday

After getting to bed at about 1.30am we got up just before 6am for a long day’s driving. We didn’t get to leave until 7.30am, half an hour later than planned (by the latest!).

We were travelling to Louis Trichardt, in the northern part of South Africa. We did have to travel over some mountain passes out of Mpumalunga as we climbed to a higher altitude, but the drive was reasonably unremarkable through dry South African highveld. Except when we saw a bakkie (ute for the uneducated) drive over a dog. We were following behind the bakkie and the next thing we saw was the dog lying on the road shaking as it experienced the pain. Not sure if it was dead, but if it wasn’t it needed to be put down. The tears from Rheanna and mum were unbearable…get over it!

We stopped in Polokwane (the new name for Pietersburg) and got to Louis Trichardt mid afternoon. There we had lunch, and catchup with family. (2 of Rheanna’s aunties and 3 kids)

Aunty Debra stays in a weird house and we slept in a caravan attached to the house. We only went to bed after 11pm and boy was it cold! (Supposedly minus 4 that night)

Monday

Monday morning we awoke early and left Louis Trichardt at 7am. We drove back through Polokwane and through to Pretoria. We had a quick stop at the Kollanades shopping centre to visit the Rugby Store by Joost.
Then we went to the jacaranda centre for lunch with Rene and Ross. (It was a 3 hour lunch!). I had peri peri chicken, and ribs, veges, a milkshake and juice. Peri Peri full after that!

After lunch finishing after 4, we made our way to Aunty Louise and met up for Dinner, with more family. We went to Spur, which was spurlicious! Leaving Pretoria close to 10pm, we still had to drive back to Randfontein in the dark, getting home after 11
