Monday we travelled back to Durban and met up with Rheanna’s brother Wynand,, his wife Lehoma and son Trisitan. We spent the day at uShaka, a marine world centre on Durban’s beach front. (www.ushakamarineworld.co.za)
We were greeted at the entrance by 2 Zulu guards, and a group of Zulu dancers further in.

Me and Wynand started with a rodeo machine. We managed to get up to level 8 out of 12. That was a lot of fun, quite a bit harder than it looks and a pretty good work out.

There were a range of shops to look through then, and we stopped at fudge world to see them making the fudge. They simply move the mixture onto a table and then spend some time manipulating it into a rectangular block before cutting it up. It is extremely impressive and looks like it takes a lot of skill. Unfortunately we watched them make “death by chocolate”, with all sorts of chocolate included in it. Oh to eat chocolate again!

After waltzing through the shops we went to the Sea world section. There was a ship (4 we are told) that are shipwrecked, and you travel below the sea, through these shipwrecks to see the marine wildlife, such as fish, sharks etc

Then we watched penguins being fed, a dolphin show and a seal show. There were also signs around and staff congratulating Comrades runners too. Many of them were at uShaka, a lot were walking around freely, but some were struggling to move! In case you hadn’t gathered Comrades is a huge deal over here!

On the way back I stopped in to the SA flag store, which had more rugby stuff…more dollars spent…more scolding from Rheanna!

Finishing late afternoon we then had to travel 125km south along the coast to Margate. Margate is a holiday resort on the beachfront. In the dark it looked like almost anywhere!

Having been to uShaka during the day I was feeling like fish, so we went out to dinner to a seafood and grill place. I had a nice piece of kingkilp, while Rheanna had linefish and calamari.

Tuesday we awoke in sunny margate, with rain and wind! Basically the same weather as Wellington. We had a quick walk towards the beach but had to curtail that when my father in law was being pushed backwards.
We spent most of the day shopping, visiting 2 fairly large shopping centres. Rheanna spent most of the time looking for clothes and shoes…

Wednesday morning is much the same….wind and rain. I hope it clears up as we have no contingency plan for this sort of weather!...
