Monday was last minute finishing off of everything we wanted to do…ie shop. We had to sort out our glasses as well, as well as post/pack things.
For dinner we went to Carnivore. (Go to http://www.rali.co.za)
Carnivore is a restaurant, with a bit of a difference. It’s not cheap (by SA standards, and you pay a set price per head)
It’s set on a small game farm, with a rustic African setting.
We started with spicy tomato soup and bread that was delicious.
Then it was the main course. They bought out a salad platter with different salads and sauces for the meats. Then they bring out the meats, fresh off the braai (the meats/animals are skewered, and put on a massive spit braai).
They bring the meat on the skewer and cut pieces of it over your plate. There are always at least 5 game meats on the menu.
We had pork sausages, Kudu meatballs, Chicken wings, Chicken breast, Ostrich, Sable antelope, smoked pork, beef, lamb, Wildebeest, Warthog, Crocodile.
You eat until you can’t eat anymore. Then you surrender by taking down the flag on the table. Boy were we stuffed by the end of that!
I have to say the meat was impressive – both in taste, quantity and choices. But above all the service was A1, nothing was too big an ask and we were treated like kings.
The worst part was that after all this, we still had to have desert! A truly memorable experience.
Tuesday morning we woke up at 5am to finish packing. We had to leave the house just after 8am, and made it to the airport around 9.30am.
There we checked in and had to say final goodbyes. 4 weeks had come to an end. This South African trip was at an end…and now we have to head back towards Australia…unless we never got on the plane….but unfortunately we did
