· The longest flight in the world

Fredericton, Canada · 3rd Oct 2008 · Posted by Beth-Anne
So firstly, we made it. In one piece and everything! It was a very very long trip but no major dramas so that was good.

It all started with a 2:30am alarm. Ouch. But we were ready in enough time to say goodbye to the kitties and get into the shuttle in time. Super Shuttle? Not so much. Save $10-$15 but get a ticky tour of the whole city. It took us an hour to get to the airport. Oh well, we weren't stressed as we knew we had enough time.

So after sitting in the airport looking pretty dead for a while, we boarded our plane to Sydney. The flight was pretty uneventful except for the landing where I got to see some of the super good race horses being exercised on the beach. They were so nice. The lady next to me said that was about a million dollars of horse flesh right there (2 horses!). Anyway, spot the girly girl gushing about horses....

We only had a few hours in Sydney airport so just enough time to get something to eat and chill for a bit. That is after we had a walking tour of the entire airport. We didn't have a gate number and our flight wasn't up on the board yet so we just walked until we found a transfer desk. Which was a looong way. We found our gate # and a sign for a shuttle to get to that gate. All sweet. Got on the shuttle... which took us back to where we started. We got off the first plane at gate 56 and had to board our next flight at gate 59. Awesome. Although it was a good chance to stretch the legs before the big flight.

Then we boarded our flight to Canada. The first part was to Vancouver and lasted 14 hours. 14!! We were lucky though that we had a set of 3 seats to ourselves so we were able to stretch out a bit. Poor Richards stomach wasn't the best as it was a bit of a bumpy one.

Vancouver was pretty much a blur as we were there only about an hour and a half. Then back onto the same plane and onwards to Toronto. Another 4.5 hours.

In Toronto I had my first chance to introduce Richard to Tim Hortons. Yay! Our stopover in Toronto was also quick. Or was meant to be. According to the announcement from the caption the "mumble mumble" was broken so we had to return to the gate. Slight anxiety there not knowing what was broken. Anyway, an hour later we were all good and in the air on the way to Fredericton.

Touching down in Fredericton was cool. I was so excited to be home after 3.5 years! We were met by my parents and my maid of honour Chrissi. That was a nice surprise :-)

So the only hiccup of the trip was that Richard's bag did not arrive when we did. They kindly gave him an overnight bag with toiletries and a t-shirt. So he borrowed a pair of my pj pants. It was cute. I have a picture but he probably wont let me put it up :-) We'll see if i can do that on the sly. Richard wasn't too pleased to be without clothes and a shaver and stuff but I was really not pleased to be without all those wedding decorations i sewed, not to mention his waistcoat, the best man's waistcoat AND all those place cards that Lisa slaved over. All is well though as the suitcase showed up today, in tact.

So anyway, we are here in one piece and enjoying things. We had a much better go of it than Annie and Chris as we had texts from them in Los Angelos as they had 2 flights in a row cancelled. Stink guys. Glad you made it to Toronto in the end!

So I'll pass the computer over to Richard to gush about samosas at the market today :-)
