· Relaxing in Malaga

Málaga, Spain · 29th Feb 2008 · Posted by monsamountry

On Friday 29th of Feb 2008, we left Cork around 615am, checked in at the airport and I almost forgot to bring my backback onto the plane! We went through customs and I had my handbag, looked around the duty free shop and then when it was time to board I realised I didnt have my backpack on me! It was still there at the xray machine thing. Steph couldn't stop laughing!!! What a great start to the trip!

We arrived around 230ish but didnt check in the hostel till about 530. We couldnt find the street on the map and the directions the hostel gave us were so bad, we got lost. After asking numerous people for directions, it ended up being in this tiny little lane that was so hard to find! We were so happy when we finally go there! The hostel was in the old historical part of the city, where the roads are very narrow and the architecture is very traditional. It was great, we had the room to our ourselves the whole time. The owners were really young and cool as well. Friday night we just wandered around the streets of Malaga taking in some of the sights and enjoying the great food and great shopping! I couldn't get enough of the tapas. Everything was so cheap. Most tapas were between 1.70 euros and 2.50 euros. Fashion is great too, very stylish and sophisticated. I love Zara and Mango!!

Saturday 1st of March was a day of relaxation for us. After wandering through the beautiful marina at Benalmadena, we ended up at the beach in Terremolinos.  It was so nice and hot and we were lying on the beach all day. We paid 4 euros to lie on the beach chairs all in front of a restaurant. We didn't have to move. Steph even treated herself to a massage when a lady came over and asked us if we wanted one. Anytime we wanted a drink or some tapas, we would wave to the waiters and then they would come over to us and take our order and then when its ready they brang us a small table with the food. This is the life!!!!

More sightseeing was instored for us on the Sunday. We went to Alcazaba which was an old military fort which i thought was very beautiful. We then walked up the hill to get to the castle which gave us great views of the city. We also went to the Picasso museum and saw the birthplace of the man himself! We wanted to go shopping on Sunday but all the shops were closed so more time for relaxing on the beach.

Steph and I are such disasters, first I almost forget to bring my bag onto to the plane with me; Steph lost her earings and Saturday while we were at the beach and then we went back and found it in the sand! (how lucky is that?!) I also bought a handmade Spanish fan and lost it Friday night at a restaurant and then when I went back there, I found out it hand been handed in!

  • Hey Mon,

Rheanna has told me lots about you - and now I can read all about your travels too! Can't believe how many cool places you've been to, it's so awesome.

I actually did the same as you and almost left my bag behind in an airport - I had just got off a long flight and totally forgot to pick up my bag from the carousel. I only realized once I'd walked through customs and was out the other side!! Talk about sleep walking right through the airport haha!!

Keep up the great posts, look forward to reading more ;)
